There are a lot of books in the library at the school I work at that are there to teach children about diversity and tolerance. But it’s not children that need to be taught this, it’s the adults. Children could care less about other people’s backgrounds, ethnicities, families, and religion. They’re too self-absorbed to think it matters. It’s once they grow up and become more aware of other people that they become less tolerant and more concerned for how other people are living their lives.
“What a tasty looking popsicle you have.”
“It’s not a popsicle, it’s a bloody knife.”
“No, it’s a popsicle. If it was a knife, we’d make you take it apart.”
“Okay, it’s a popsicle.”
(pretends to lick)
“Oh, what a nice looking toucan you made.”
“It’s not a toucan, it’s a gun. BAM BAM BAM.”
“But if it were a gun, we’d make you take it apart.”
“Oh fine, it’s a toucan.”
(holsters ‘toucan’)
“Look, I’m Deadpool. With a popsicle. And a toucan.”
Coffee breathes into me and it’s soft coming from a pair of lips. Cupped hand to your mouth, ask me, is it bad?
